Election 2025
Vacancies:
- Mayor (1)
- Councillors (6)
Elections will be conducted in accordance with the Local Authorities Election Act and other applicable municipal bylaws and policies.
Nomination Period
- Nomination Period: Is now open for the Town of Sexsmith until September 22, 2025 (until 12:00 p.m.)
- Candidate Information Packages will be available at the Town Administration Office or online.
- Candidates can file nomination papers during office hours throughout the nomination period. (currently waiting for Municipal Affairs to release the nomination form for the 2025 municipal election)
Nomination Day
- Deadline: September 22, 2025, by 12:00 p.m.
Election Day
- Date: October 20, 2025
Eligibility Requirements for Candidates
To run for any office in the election, you must meet the following criteria:
- At least 18 years of age
- A Canadian citizen
- A resident of the Town of Sexsmith since March 22, 2025
- Not otherwise disqualified or ineligible

Notice of Intent
As required by Section 147.22 of the Local Authorities Election Act, a candidate must submit a Notice of Intent before accepting campaign contributions or incurring campaign expenses.
- This form must be submitted before any campaigning begins.
- Once submitted, candidates are added to the Register of Candidates and can begin accepting contributions and incurring expenses.
- To officially be a candidate and appear on the ballot, you must complete the nomination process.

Nomination Process
Nomination forms have not yet been released by Municipal Affairs. Forms will be added once they are released.
Candidates must submit the following forms to the Returning Officer:
- Nomination Paper and Candidate's Acceptance Form (Form 4)
- Candidate Financial Information Form (Form 5)
- Authorization for Release of Personal Information (Form from the Town of Sexsmith)
- Statement of Scrutineer or Official Agent.
Both Form 4 and Form 5 must be submitted together, in accordance with Part 1, Section 27 of the Local Authorities Election Act.
Forms will be available in physical form at the Town Office during office hours.
Campaign Disclosure and Financial Statements:
- Form 26: Campaign Disclosure Statement and Financial Statement must be filed to avoid penalties.
